40's/50's Look!

So, one thing you should know about me is that I love to go thrift shopping. I'd rather hit up a Goodwill or Salvation Army than a Macy's or Nordstrom's. :) There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting pre-loved clothes! The following outfit is 100% thrifted, which means I spent less than $10 on it!

Navy blue high-waisted shorts, a button blouse tied neatly, and a string of pearls make for a very vintage look!

Here is a close up of my hair - my take on Victory Rolls, I call them Victory Twists! - and curled bangs. So chic!

Keep an eye on upcoming posts, I've got some interesting books and magazines from the 40's that I got at an old bookstore. I want to get some scans so I can share, they're pretty neat!

'Tis but a flesh wound!

Hi! I just wanted to say that I'm not dead (yet), and I'm going to have some rad updates coming up soon. I hope you enjoy the new look of the site, I've decided to make this a vintage fashion blog in addition to the the makeup aspect. Hopefully I'll be able to showcase both! :)

Hello Kitty Swatches

Here are the Hello Kitty reviews I promised in my last entry. :)
Nail polish shown is Sephora by OPI's "Go With the Flow-er".

I probably could have done another coat of color, but I wanted to get to putting on the stickers! I've got her bow on my index finger on my right hand as shown, and on my left hand thumb I've got a Hello Kitty face. They went on easily and seem to be staying, although I did put a top coat on as well.

The liners:

Left to right:
Goodnight Dreams, Grape Juice, Chocolate Milk, Happy Cloud, Blueberry, Bicycle and Blue Sky.

Natural light.

I am very excited to use these in upcoming looks. The black liner looks a lot like MAC's Feline (which I also have) and I want to see how it compares staying wise. I had a lot of trouble keeping Feline from moving on me. I hope this one does better. :) I would also like to point out how much I love Happy Cloud and look forward to using it as a lower water line color. I hope someone eventually also compares these to the Urban Decay set that has recently been released (I am not paying $92 for eyeliners I probably wont use).

Keep an eye out for a black liner review, including the color from this set and some others. I want to see how they compete against each other! :)

Medusa's Kitten

Here it is! My first "lotd" or Look of the Day if you will. :) I had a lot of fun with this one, mostly because I got to try a lot of new products with it! I got a lovely Sephora gift card for Christmas, and I finally used it. I picked up the stuff I ordered from UPS yesterday, and got to try the new things today. I also used a few things I had already, of course. :)

The overall look - very neutral and work-appropriate.

This shows the shimmer the best, as does the next one.

I am still perfecting my eyeliner techniques.

Products used:

Eyes -
1. Kat Von D High Voltage Eyeshadow Primer
2. Stila Smudgepot in Kitten
3. Medusa's makeup e/s in Vanilla Latte
4. Smashbox liquid liner pen in black
5. Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara

Face-
1. Hard Candy face primer
2. Philosophy's The Supernatural powder foundation
3. Smashbox Softlights in Prism

Lips-
1. Kat Von D Lightning Sheer lip gloss in Rocker

This was my first time using both of the Kat Von D items, the smudgepot and the mascara. I have to say, I was pretty impressed with all of them! My new favorite is probably the smudgepot though, because it gives off a very nice subtle shimmer and I really enjoy that. Let me know what you think, constructive criticism is always welcome!

Edited to add: On day two of using the Kat Von D primer, I did a cute look with Shiro Cosmetics' Kawaii shadows. After I got home from work, my boyfriend asked me, while motioning to my eyes, if that was what I mean by creases. Much to my dismay, I noted that the shadows had creased horribly. Perhaps it is just that the two products should not be used together, or something, but I will note that I didn't have this problem when I used the shadows with my Urban Decay Primer Potion.

In other news, I recently tried the Tarina Tarantino "Mini Gem Glossette" lip gloss kit.

I really wanted the shade "Ruby Headphones" because when I swatched it on my hand, it showed a nice, shimmery red that I thought would look great on me! And it did! All of them were pretty great colors! However, I couldn't get past the smell and the grittiness of the actual gloss. It smelled very much like a cheap dollar stop lip gloss full of chemicals and I couldn't use it because of that alone. I may have been able to work past the grittiness, but not that stench. I had to return it, which broke my heart. I really wanted to like them! :(
